Historical Significance

The song is historically significant because over time it shows the loss of the American people and there values of life. Don McLean’s American pie appealed to Americans because it related to a defining moment in American experience where something had been lost and every one felt this loss which brought people to make their own cultures and views. The social experiments of the 1960s began to collapse under their own weight and in 1970 disillusion of the people that we once were fell upon us which was all part of McLean’s song.

The song depicts the new culture emerging in America during this time. The way that America had lost its innocence, the new lifestyle every American was beginning to have, the loss of religion, the new priorities set up by society, the loss of a first love, the loss of a simpler time. The song exemplifies all the feelings Americans were feeling, most important the death of music becoming the death of innocence and optimism during the fifties, which the song “American Pie” by Don McLean explains why the American life was lost over the years and how people chnage as well.

Nonviolence and Racial Justice 157

Over the years of the civil rights movement it impacted many americans. In 1957of the article nonviolence and racial justice, Martin made it clear about the non violence resistance. He ended the successful boycott of segregated city buses around the south. Durning his nonviolence movement he mentioned the methods of race relations to stop nonviolence. He wanted to end segreated cities as soon as possible.

Martin’s method was mainly about faith. His four methods of nonviolence was to change the understanding of justice. It basically formed their mental and spiritual that violence came when evil was in a person mind. It can be seen as ethics of nonviolence in their lives.

It would impact and change the lives of African American. Also it would impact the civil rights movement because it taught people on how violenece would not sovle a problem. As well as the people who were racist. It was impact of faith that said that justice would come with God not with violence around the world and the civil rights movement.

Who’s philsophy made the most sense for America in the 1960’s? Essay

Over the years during the civil rights movement in the 1950 to 1960 many fought against segregation. Many dreamed of being a family and being equal, to work together and help each other to make a difference. As this dream became more aware people sarted making their own views and comments. for example the people that made the biggest impact in those days was Malcolm X and Marytin Luther King Jr. They had different philosophy that made people think about them. But the best philosophy that made more sence was the one from Malcolm X, he made it clearb if there was going to be violence if they wanted change and fix the problems fast. these views made an impact because they made other people think about the situations that the African American were going through.

Even though Martin and Malcom had different views they still respected each other (Document A). Martin dream of getting along with other raises and to work and pray together. Also that he wanted to all children to be in a place where there was no raisem (Document B). Martin had a different view that all Afriacn American respected and gave credit to all the whites but when it came to a black person the white had no saying to it (Document C). Martin was the one that if a white person came and destory churches and homes he would just say that they would not give up and would still march on segregated schools (Document D). Malocolm was different he wanted to make a school of education that taught every children of lies that enslaved them. Also to encourge and establish centers in Afro-American communities (Document E). While Martin made it clear that his philosophy was to follow nonviolnence steps, that only violenece intense ore evil in their communities and hoe nonviolenece was the power to get more opportunities for blacks to get jobs (Document F).

Malcolm philosophy was of black nationalism which gave the power of blacks to establish their own community and have control of its economy and money (Document G). Martin philosophy was nonviolenece, he said that if even though black people had been treated bad and killed they were still going to loe whites people and one day they could appel to their heart and maybe they would change and stop segregation (Document H). Martin has said that if any one had different languages they could still communicate. but if any wants to learn his or her history and language then there would be brutality. If you want to talk sweet to them then they would still be violenece (Document I). Martin best saying was that if there was violenece would led to more haetred in the world and liars, he also though that if we used violenece then it would not solve any problems it waould all be the same and not change a thing (Document J). If they talk abut violence and nonviolence then Malocolm would have made more sence because if whites were being violence to black then why couldn’t defend themselves. They should be stop only if they use violence people would listen more.

Malcolm has said that non violenece was only taught by blacks, to be peaceful and to respect other but if they were treated bad then why not use violenece as whites did. He never heard a white person teaching nonviolence so why not do it and protect from any racists attacks (Document K). Martin believed that if there was a violent revolution then everyone would be outnumbred and no one would win. But it would chage if we stick to nonviolenece and that it would be better to all of us (Document L). Malcolm thought that if the whites were using them to fight one of there wars, what did the blacks get in return and the answer was nothing. Instaed they would use there manpower of not using one of their own so why be in peace if the problem is not solved (Document M). If there was going to be peace then i think that everyone should be treated equaly but if not then there should be something doneb like Malcolm X said.

So after all the philsophy that made more sence was malcolm’s beacuse if they were fighting for equality in peace and nothing change then why suffer and stay there doing nothing. If there was more violenece and fought on what they believed in then the problem would be sloved fatser. Martin was more peaceful and his philosophy was nonviolenece it impact a lot of people but still the problem took longer cause nothing was being done and his ideas made it more difficult.

Martin Luther King vs. Malcolm X Documents

Doc D

This document shows that the philosophy of Martin made more sence because he is trying to tell African American that even though whites had burn down there houses and churches they still stay together. They would stay together pray and march on segregated school without violence or fights.

Doc E
This document is supporting Malcolm X philosophy because it saying that even African American didn’t have any freedom they should still do an organization that would teach children from the lies of others. Also to encourage them to make educational school that African American can go to.

Doc F
This document martin philosophy is showing that segregation would not be fought and would be peaceful, if they are many would listen. Martin is also making a change and putting out his voice to show people that there is no need of violence and would be fix by peaceful ways of getting knew opportunities.

Doc G
In this document Malcolm is using nationalism for an example. To show how the black can make their own control to make its own community. And if they had no money. This was malcolm philosophy of using nationalism.

Doc H
This document Martin is saying that if whites were treating black bad the African American would still love them they would not do nothing to them and would not affect them. And maybe that peace would bring the truth to all whites that black do need their freedom no matter what. That was Martin philosophy.

Doc I
In this document Malcolm X philosophy was that if peace was used then there was going to no change. So he thought that if there was violence for example if you didn’t defend yourself then the whites would still treat them bad. Also he thought that blacks could not be peaceful instead they needed to prepare for war.

Doc J
In this document Martin is talking about his philosophy on violence that it doesn’t help to solve problems. It only establish more hatred and lies. He also says that violence show more weakness and bulids up more evil.

Doc K
Malcolm’s philosophy was more different in this document, he says that even though there people out there who talk about nonviolent but he thinks that blacks can protect themselves of any racist. He thinks that no one should teach blacks nonviolent until someone has taught racist about nonviolent.

Doc L
In this document Martin philosophy make sence because he is saying that blacks had been in a violent revolution and that didn’t even help to end segregation in America. Also is saying that the African American had no choice but yo choose nonviolence.

Doc M
In this document Malcolm philosophy made also sence because if the American send blacks to war why not return something to them for example equality. Also if one black person had the opportunity to go to a university then every black should have the right to go.
